Bleddfa

Bleddfa is a small village in the heart of Radnorshire. It is 700ft above sea level to the north of the Radnor forest and near the river Lug. It lies between Knighton, Presteigne and Llandrindod Wells.

The name, Bleddfa, is thought to derive from Blaiddfau, meaning ‘Place of the Wolves’. Wolves roamed wild until Tudor times when it is believed that the last wolf in Wales was driven out on the far side of the Radnor Forest into the valley and killed at Cregina.

Many ask how to pronounce the name Bleddfa. The double ‘dd’ is pronounced like ‘th’ as in ‘the’ and ‘f’ in Welsh is like a ‘v’. Thus Bleth-va with the emphasis on the first syllable.

The residents of Bleddfa are a mix of farmers, retirees, local business men/women and others lucky enough to work primarily from home. It is a very friendly community who enjoy getting together at the local pub(when open), The Greyhound in Llangunllo and meeting at community events in the Hall Barn e.g. quiz nights, curry nights etc.
